Vessels
2018—Ongoing
This series explores belonging through belongings, re-engaging the objects not only to function as traces of loss, but also beacons of hope for the culture to be excavated and embodied once again. The loss of heritage and disconnection from roots are caused by many factors: globalisation, migration, cultural imperialism. Vessels functions as an excavation of familial remains, reclaiming the objects steeped in a collective memory in the family. The items are not stained from the grievance of loss; they function as wormholes that allow myself to connect to the past, closing the space-time gap between the area I have come to inhabit, and the capsule of history my ancestors existed in.
